Hog Roast Newport Prepares For A Welsh Valentine’s Day Celebration!

Hog Roast NewportValentine’s Day is a popular holiday here in Wales, so popular, in fact, that we celebrate it twice! Observed three weeks before the universally recognised day of love is the lesser-known ‘Welsh Valentine’s Day’ a.k.a. Dydd Santes Dwynwen.

Like Valentine’s Day, Dydd Santes Dwynwen celebrates a patron saint. In this case, that patron saint is Saint Dwynwen – the Welsh patron saint of lovers. Not unlike St Valentine’s Day, this annual celebration, which takes place every year on the 25th of January, sees people exchange cards and gifts and spend time with loved ones.

St Dwynwen’s Day is always fun to celebrate, and this year, Hog Roast Newport has been asked to lend a helping hand at an event Holly and her husband, Cameron, are hosting at their glamping spot, which is tucked away in the countryside.

The event is open exclusively to ticket holders, and it will be giving people the chance to experience and embrace Welsh culture and traditions. Namely, there will be a crafting workshop for guests to carve their own wooden lovespoons, a roaring log fire to huddle around as the evening creeps in, and, due to the remote venue, there will be plenty of breathtaking views to observe.

To keep everyone fed and happy during the celebrations, Hog Roast Newport has been asked to serve our Classic Hog Roast Menu to the group. This will see us spit-roast a full pig over real flames for hours before carving up the meat and serving it on gluten-free and wholemeal rolls with sage and onion stuffing, crispy crackling and applesauce.

Hog Roast NewportAccompanying the hog roast, our catering manager, Brad, and the team will prepare a selection of salad options, along with our famous gourmet coleslaw and a huge batch of mixed sweet potato and regular fries. Catering to those with strict dietary requirements, Hog Roast Newport has also been asked to prepare a plant-based alternative of grilled vegetable skewers with optional halloumi cheese chunks, sweet chilli sauce and tzatziki dip.

The event is going to be a busy one, but we’re confident that Brad and the team will do a fantastic job (they always do!) and that the guests will love what Hog Roast Newport has to offer!
